LUDINGTON — A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 55 months (four years and seven months) to 25 years in prison for a conviction of child sexually abusive activity and a concurrent term of 55 months to 20 years for a conviction of using a computer to commit a crime Tuesday, April 22, in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court.
Johnathon Sturtevant took multiple photographs with his cell phone of a naked 4-year-old girl while she was taking a bath, according to a letter read by Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Beth Hand during his sentencing hearing. The letter was written by the victim’s mother who said she “felt disgust, anger, shame.”
“Unfortunately, the court sees way more of this than I think anybody expects or is prepared to deal with in their daily lives,” said Judge Susan K. Sniegowki. “The actions are very concerning. The Michigan Department of Corrections is in a position to provide programs and monitor the defendant.”
Sturtevant had no prior criminal record, said the judge. Sentencing guidelines in the case are 48-75 months. Sentencing guidelines help determine the minimum end of the term, while the maximum is set by statute.
He received credit for 267 days served in jail.
Sturtevant appeared in court via Zoom video conferencing from the Osceola County Jail.
