SCOTTVILLE — The Mason County Central Board of Education has approved the hiring of Matt Millspaugh as the new MCC middle school/high school athletic director and high school dean of students. Millspaugh is currently a science teacher at the high school and will continue in that role until the end of the school year.
“It is my pleasure to recommend Matt Millspaugh for the open position of middle school/high school athletic director and high school dean of students,” High School Principal Jeff Tuka wrote to the board of education. “Mr. Millspaugh possesses the qualifications and is familiar with our school district, staff, students, and families.”
Prior to being hired as a teacher at MCC, Millspaugh was a teacher and coach at Mason County Eastern School District. He coached girls basketball teams that would often win district and regional championships.
“He works well with people and is very dependable,” Tuka wrote. “His personality sticks out as he is a fantastic relationship building and already has relationships with our people. We feel that our coaches, staff and students will respond well to him as he runs our athletic department and is our dean of students. Mr. Millspaugh has coached multiple sports throughout his career. He has also coached at multiple levels. This will make him a good mentor for our current and future coaches.”
Millspaugh replaces Brian Beebe, who served as athletic director and assistant high school principal since September 2024 and recently resigned from the position, along with the position of girls varsity basketball coach, to take on another position elsewhere. Long-time retired athletic director Tim Genson has been serving as interim athletic director.
