LUDINGTON — A 36-year-old man accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint is charged with 10 felony counts.
Rojelio Cody Yates was arraigned, April 4, in Mason County’s 79th District Court on the following charges: two counts of armed robbery, four counts of second-offense felony firearms, second-degree home invasion, firearms larceny, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Yates, who is currently on parole, was arrested by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, March 20.
The alleged robbery occurred in the City of Ludington, said Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Beth Hand. The female victim, who is approximately 30 years old, was not injured, said Hand. Yates allegedly used a pistol to rob money from the victim. “The offender has an extensive history that includes prior weapons offenses and violence.”
Yates’ criminal history in Mason County dates back 20 years, according to court records. Since 2005, he has served numerous jail and prison terms for home invasion, larceny from a motor vehicle, assault with intent to rob while armed, felony firearm, assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, methamphetamine possession and carrying a concealed weapon.
Yates is scheduled for a preliminary hearing, April 23. He remains lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
An armed robbery conviction in Michigan is punishable by up to life in prison.
