George Bray

George Allen Bray, 71, of Ludington, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Born on December 17, 1953, in Ludington, he was the son of the late Joseph and Vivian Bray. George was a lifelong resident of his birthplace, where he forged a life marked by hard work, family devotion, and an unwavering love for the great outdoors.

After graduating from Ludington High School with the class of 1971, George embarked on a career as a welder with Harbison Walker, and later Straits Steel where he remained until his retirement in 2018. His work was not just a job but a craft he honed with pride and diligence.

George was a man who found great pleasure in the company of others, known for his sociable nature and his ability to find humor in every situation. His laughter was infectious, and his stories were the highlight of many gatherings.

An ardent outdoorsman, George’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and hiking. He took every chance to be amidst the tranquility of nature, a passion that he shared with friends and family alike.

He is survived by his wife of nearly four decades, Shelly (Holt) Bray and their children, Christopher (Joey) Bray, Susan (Brett) Companion, and Amber Bray Long. His legacy also lives on through his siblings Christy (Mike) Anthony, Mary Jo (Randy) Wolfe, Jessica (Darrell) Johnson, Betty (Jim) Bogus, Carrie (David) Kruppe, Joe (Sara) Bray, David (Cindy) Bray, Paul (Kathy) Bray, and Pat (Toia) Bray, and his grandchildren Chase, Carver and Joseph Bray, Tyler (Ashleigh) Companion, Taylor, Jacob and Courtney Companion, and Vera Long as well as his many nieces, nephews, and close relatives.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Dalton and Elsbeth Holt; his brother, Mike Bray; and his son-in-law, Matthew Long.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday February 27, 2025 at 1 p.m. at American Legion Post 76, 318 N James St, Ludington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to George’s wife, Shelly Bray.

George’s life was a testament to the simple joys of laughter, the warmth of community, and the enduring bonds of family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew him.
