PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Men Who Care of Mason County presented its inaugural donation of $2,750 today to Lakeshore Children’s Advocacy Center. The group held its first quarterly meeting on Feb. 4. During the meeting attendees placed nominations of a Mason County charitable organization in a hat and three were randomly selected. Then, the attendee who nominated one of those three organizations gave a five-minute pitch. The attendees then voted. The group was organized by Wally Cain of Ludington and inspired by the charitable-giving group Women Who Care of Mason County. Forty-seven men attended the first meeting, each committing $50 to the organization that was chosen.
Today, Cain, along with Ludington Police Chief Chris Jones, who made the pitch, presented a “check” to Megan McCarthy, executive director of LCAC, and Lindsay Umlaur, family advocate and forensic interviewer. The LCAC has offices in Manistee, Ludington, and Hart. Its Ludington office is located at 239 N. Jebavy Dr. Center personnel work side-by-side with law enforcement, children’s protective services, prosecuting attorney’s offices, and medical and mental health professionals to provide a coordinated response to child abuse investigations. It receives no tax dollars.
“This is a good beginning, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to make a positive impact,” Cain said.
Men Who Care of Mason County will meet again on Tuesday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. at People’s Church, 115 W. Loomis St.
