WSCC to hold virtual presentation on social connection and health

February 13, 2025

WSCC News is a presentation of West Shore Community College in partnership with Mason County Press.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP – West Shore Community College invites the public to Social Connection & Health: Exploring the Intersection of Barriers, a virtual presentation on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. via Zoom: https://bit.ly/humankindwinter25

Led by Donna Norkoli and Erin Oleniczak from District Health Department #10 and Kianna DeHoek from Central Michigan District Health Department, this discussion will highlight findings from a recent focus group study on barriers to social connection. The research focused on individuals with disabilities, older adults, and low-income populations, shaping a Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) Accelerator Plan aimed at fostering stronger, more connected communities.

“Understanding these challenges helps us create a society where everyone feels valued and supported,” said Patti Skinner, WSCC director of library services. “By working together, we can create more inclusive and connected communities.”

The event is part of WSCC’s HumanKind series, which explores themes of togetherness, connection, and community through lectures, workshops, and discussions. For more information, visit westshore.edu/humankind or email humankind@westshore.edu.
