Roger Vernier

Roger Eugene Vernier, 56, of Free Soil, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Roger was born on December 17, 1968, to James and Phyllis (Martin) Vernier.

Roger graduated from Clarkston High School in 1987. He went on to join the United States Army, being honorably discharged in 1990. He earned a professional commercial diving certificate in 1991 and was primarily employed by Townsend and Bottum Commercial Diving. He married former spouse, Heather (Schroeder) Osgood in 1995. Roger then re-enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 2000 until 2013, retiring as a staff sergeant (E6).

Roger enjoyed spending time outdoors, shooting, boating, hunting, and traveling. He also loved pool, bowling and spending time with his family.

Roger is survived by his sons, Jonathan (Cian) Cusack, and James P. Vernier; daughter, Madison Vernier; parents, James E. and Phyllis Vernier; stepdaughter, Kaira (Doug) Ambrose; sisters, Michelle (Scott) Fader, Kathy Vernier, Pam Dobbs; brother, Jim (Catherine) Vernier; and nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his stepmom, Ruth Vernier.

Military Honors will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at noon at Oak Grove Funeral Home. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
