Marlene D. Greiner, 88, of Ludington, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington.  Her final day was spent surround by family and the caring staff of Oakview.  She was born February 13, 1936, in Flint, the daughter of Kermit and Fern (Harwood) Mellberg.

Marlene attended school in Flint and Ludington, graduating from Ludington High School where she forged many lifetime friendships.  After graduation Marlene married Bill Greiner and together they had five children.  After her children were older, she worked as a favorite bartender to all who knew her for many years at Ramada Inn,  Lincoln Hills Golf Club and Stix of Ludington. Prior to that she and her husband Bill owned and operated various businesses including Ludington Floor Covering and restaurants in Ludington and Houghton Lake.

Marlene was one-of-a-kind and known for her sense of humor, sass and ability to make everyone feel special.  In her spare time, Marlene could be seen walking her dog all over town on her way to watch the carferry come in.  Marlene loved family, travel, listening to music, dancing, and her annual birthday trip to the spa with her daughters.

Marlene attended St. Simon Catholic Church and was active in school programs when her kids were at Ludington Area Catholic School.

Marlene is survived by: her children, Don (Lou) Greiner, Traci (John) Hockstra, Cay (Tim) Strahan and Nikole (Scott DeWitt) Slaggert; her grandchildren, Jordan Greiner, Breanna Greiner, Randi Sniegowski, Will Kellogg, Sean Wilbur, Kailee Aller, Samantha Yennior, Hayden Chapman, Georjana Slaggert, Alec Slaggert and Owen Slaggert; and her great-grandchildren, Marissa, Mariah, Brynn, William, Jesse, Quinten, Maverick, Ryah and Khloe.

Marlene was preceded in death by: her parents, former husband and dear friend, William “Bill” Greiner in 2023; her son, Joseph R. Greiner in 2017; and her beloved dogs, Rex and Toby.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later time in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
