Officer treated at hospital after assault

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A Ludington police officer was treated at Corewell Health Ludington Hospital for a cut to the face following an assault by a 41-year-old Ludington man during his arrest Sunday, Dec. 8, shortly after 11:30 a.m., according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The man was arrested in the in the 5700 block of West US 10 following a 911 call reporting a male walking in the road and flicking pennies at passing cars. “While attempting contact, the suspect reportedly struck an LPD officer in the face and fought with deputies and LPD officers while being taken into custody,” said Sheriff Cole.

The man is being charged with methamphetamine possession and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police.

• 12:56 p.m., two-vehicle crash, no injury, Meyers Road north of Conrad Road, Amber Township.

• 5:52 a.m., two-vehicle crash, minor injury, US 31 south of Sugar Grove Road, Sherman Township.
• 10:52 a.m., alarm activation, Amber Township.
• 4:23 p.m., one-vehicle crash, no injury, Decker Road east of Lincoln Road, Hamlin Township.
• 9:46 p.m., a 21-year-old Hart man was arrested on an outstanding Mason County failure to appear warrant, Pere Marquette Highway and Oceana Drive, Summit Township.

Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024:

• 7:49 a.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Pere Marquette Highway south of Meyers (Pere Marquette Township.
• 8:43 a.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Sugar Grove Road west of Amber Road, Victory Township.
• 12:27 p.m., a 28-year-old Wellston woman was arrested on an outstanding failure to warrant issued in Mason County, US 31 and Countyline Road, Grant Township.
• 5:20 p.m., car/deer crash, no injury, US 31 freeway south of Chauvez Road, Pere Marquette Township.
