Valerie Gail (Irwin) Stapleton, 65, of Scottville, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
Val was born on August 3, 1959, the daughter of Dick and Diana (Roseberry) Irwin. She was a 1977 graduate of Ludington High School. After high school, she attended West Shore Community College. On December 5, 1987, she married John Stapleton. For over 26 years, she worked on the SS Badger as the Badger Boatique manager. She was also a Hospitality Inc. volunteer.
Val enjoyed the outdoors. She could be found hiking or biking trails, kayaking on the river, going to the beach, and spending time with her family. Beloved by family and friends alike, Val could really light up a room. She knew how to bring the joy. She loved playing with her nieces and nephews and their children. She was always ready to help with joy and verve. She also loved animals, especially her cats. Her laugh was loved, and she will be greatly missed.
Val is survived by her husband, John Stapleton; siblings, Susan Carlson, Rich Irwin, and Mark (Jaydine) Irwin; nieces and nephews, James Carlson, Mike Carlson, Jacob (Erica) Irwin, Brittany Irwin, Rachel (Ian Eddy) Irwin, Ali Irwin, Beth (Kevin) Haberski, Brad (Sandra) Irwin, and Bret Irwin; grand-nieces and -nephews, Reese, Natalie, and Wesley Carlson, Drew and Ava Irwin, Kason and Gannon Schmock, Luke and Chase Haberski, and Cali Jowers.
Val was preceded in death by her mother, Diana Irwin; brother-in-law, Joseph Carlson; niece, Grace Irwin; mother in-law, Phoebe Goulet; father in-law, William Stapleton; and grandparents.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
