LUDINGTON — A 17-year-old Ludington male was arrested Friday evening after allegedly stabbing a 16-year-old Ludington male. Police and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to Legacy Plaza in downtown Ludington at 7:37 p.m. on Nov. 22 for a reported stabbing. According to Ludington Police Department Chief Chris Jones, upon arrival officers found the 16-year-old victim with a stab wound to his lower back. After receiving medical care on scene he was then transported by ambulance to Corewell Health Ludington Hospital.
Following interviews with the victim and witnesses, police learned that a physical altercation occurred between the two juveniles, in the alley behind the 100 block of West Ludington Avenue. During the altercation, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the lower back.
The suspect fled the scene on foot and the victim ran to Legacy Plaza, where a witness called 911. Through interviews with the victim and witnesses, officers were able to identify the suspect as a 17-year-old male from Ludington, an acquaintance of the victim. LPD officers and Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the suspect at his residence in Ludington.
The suspect was arrested and transported to a juvenile detention center, pending arraignment.
Jones said the investigation by the Ludington Police Department is still active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Jacob Miller by email, miller209@ci.ludington.mi.us, or by telephone at 231-843-3425.
Ludington Police Department was assisted by Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Ludington Fire Department, and Life EMS.
