Curling club hosting Learn to Curl events

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The Ludington Area Curling Club will host Learn to Curl classes and drop-in curling games from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17 and Sunday, Dec. 15 at West Shore Community Ice Arena.

“We’re really just hoping to get more people to try it out and gain interest in the sport,” said Dani McGarry, a Ludington Area Curling Club board member.

The cost is $20 per person, payable to the ice arena, and includes personal instruction on how to throw curling stones, sweep, game strategy and rules during a two hour practice lesson and game.

Participants are encouraged to dress warm and have a clean pair of gym shoes to change into. All other equipment will be provided.

“We have some people who like to learn the traditional method of throwing stones, in a low glide on the ice, and others that use the stick-throwing method, similar to shuffleboard. It’s really adaptable,” McGarry said.
