Ralph R. “Butch” Razminas, 77, of Walhalla passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Butch was born on December 14, 1946 at Paulina Stearns Hospital in Ludington, the son of Walter and Valeria (Rimkus) Razminas and graduated from Mason County Central High School with the class of 1965. On February 12, 1966 he married his best friend and love of his life Sally Portinga at Rehoboth Reformed Church in Lucas, and they have celebrated almost 59 blessed years together.
Butch worked for Dow Chemical in Ludington for over 30 years in various roles but most notably as a security officer and production administrator, retiring in 1998. In his retirement, he worked part-time for the United States Postal Service at the Walhalla Post Office for a short time and served his community as treasurer for Branch Township for the past 12 years. He and Sally were charter members of Mason County Reformed Church in Scottville where Butch served as elder and deacon several times.
Butch loved to build model cars – especially late model cars. His attention to detail allowed him to create some beautiful works. He was a huge Detroit Lions fan and was looking forward to them winning the Super Bowl this year. You would often find Butch tending to his lawn or putzing around the house if you stopped by for a visit. His love for his wife and family were second only to his love for his Lord and Savior. Butch’s faith and love for family and friends was the foundation of his life.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Valeria; his in-laws who he was very fond of – Fred and Gertrude Portinga; and his precious granddaughter Bethany Duran.
Along with his wife Sally, Butch will be greatly missed by his children Todd (Susan) Razminas, Christine (Carey) Duran, and Karen (Jason) Mazur all of Ludington; his grandchildren Zachary (Katie) Razminas of Cadillac, Joshua Razminas, Caleb, Isaac, Benjamin, and Samuel Duran, Mollie and Aleena Mazur all of Ludington; one great-grandson soon to arrive; and his sister Bernice (Fred) Bentz of Twin Lake.
Funeral services will be held for Butch at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 2 at Mason County Reformed Church with his friend, Gene McClellan officiating. Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Scottville. Friends may meet with his family on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Those who wish to remember Butch with a memorial contribution are asked to please consider two charities that held special meaning to Butch – the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
