October 29, 2024

LUDINGTON—The Community Foundation for Mason County and the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) recently awarded more than $46,000 in new grants to community organizations in support of projects throughout Mason County.

The Community Foundation for Mason County had $20,000 available during its fall competitive grant cycle to support projects that align with its strategic goal of education. A co-investment from House of Flavors, Inc. made it possible to award more than double the amount of funds available. The Drs. Ruth & John Carney Education Fund and the House of Flavors, Inc. Fund co-invested to provide funding for three grants, while the Nancy & Leo Hesting Fund supported an additional award.

The grant awards include:

  • Sandcastles Children’s Museum: Zen’s Den Social Emotional Exhibit and Programming, $3,000 — House of Flavors, Inc. Fund, Drs. Ruth & John Carney Education Fund
  • West Shore Educational Service District: First Robotics Practice Facility at Whitehall Industries, $27,800 — House of Flavors, Inc. Fund, Drs. Ruth & John Carney Education Fund

  • Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association: 5,000 Lighthouse Activity Books for Children, $1,700 — Nancy & Leo Hesting Fund

The Mason County Youth Advisory Council (YAC) also recently awarded nearly $4,000 in teacher mini-grants. It considered 24 requests, a record number for the teacher mini-grant round. Mason County teachers and counselors are eligible to apply, and requests may be awarded up to $500. Requests can include program enhancement that meets curriculum guidelines, expanding an already existing unit, student awards, special events, professional development, artists in residence, or parent involvement programs.
