Wayne Fox

Wayne Eugene Fox, Sr., 88, of Ludington passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Wayne was born on May 19, 1936 in Ludington, the son of Homer and Maurine (Rasmussen) Fox. He graduated from Ludington High School in 1954. Wayne married Virginia Surplice on May 9, 1959; they shared 65 years together.

Wayne served in the U.S. Army for six years from 1959 to 1965 and completed a tour in Korea. He earned the Sharp Shooter Rifle Badge and Good Conduct Medal for his service. Before and after serving in the military, Wayne worked in the construction trade. For a time, he owned his own construction business with his father, Homer.

Wayne enjoyed spending time with and taking care of his family. He was very talented in woodworking and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or fix. Wayne cherished the time he spent playing his harmonica with his father and uncles and picked it back up in later years. Wayne was an avid rifle and archery hunter and greatly enjoyed the many elk hunting trips he took to Colorado and Montana with his family. Wayne loved his family homestead and was blessed to live on the same land for 85 years. He was very proud to call himself a country boy.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; along with his siblings and their spouses: Janice (Russell) Soper, Willa Jean (Everett) Dust, Vernita (Robert) Allard, Leah (George) Danigelis, Kay Fetters and Elmina, Ethel, and Craig Fox. His in-laws, Edward and Laura Surplice. His sisters-in-law Mary Ann (Delbert) Thorne and Louise Surplice. His brothers-in-law Edward, William, Michael and Burton Surplice, and David Richards.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Ludington; children, Wayne (Peggy) Fox, Jr. and Rebecca Fox, all of Ludington; grandchildren Andrew Fox of Hammond, Indiana and Kayla (Braden) Beaver of Ludington; brother-in-law Fred Surplice of Ludington; and sister-in-law Laura Richards of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Wayne is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
