HART — A 23-year-old Sherman Township man was sentenced in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court Monday, Sept. 16, to three to 15 years in prison for a conviction of unlawful imprisonment after holding a 20-year-old woman captive in her own car for over 12 hours last October.

Jehud Edreih-Deleon Ramirez, of 1968 E. Fountain Rd., pleaded “no contest” to the charge, July 22, and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct were dismissed.

“The defendant was able to get the victim into her car under the guise he would drive from her house to his home,” said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon. However, Ramirez “drove around for over 12 hours not letting her go to work or home. He also would not let her have her glasses, which inhibited her knowing exactly where she was.”

The victim was pregnant with the defendant’s child at the time of the crime, said Bizon.

During the 12-hour ride, stops were made in remote areas including one stop to refuel the car at a gas station where the victim works. “He took her glasses, so she did not always know where they were.”

Ramirez, who has been lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $75,000/cash/surety bond since his arrest, received credit for 318 days served.

He received the highest possible maximum term for the conviction, which is 15 years in prison.
