LUDINGTON — A police investigation of a bomb threat at Ludington High School Monday evening, Sept. 9, determined “that there is no immediate threat to the safety of students or the school community,” states a joint press release from the Ludington Police Department and Ludington Area Public Schools issued Tuesday morning, Sept. 10.
“On September 9, 2024, at 7:47 p.m., the Ludington Police Department was notified of a potential threat involving Ludington High School,” states the press release. “The Michigan State Police relayed this information through the anonymous reporting service ‘OK2SAY,’ which indicated a secondhand report about a student’s note referencing a future bomb threat. In response, the Ludington Police Department promptly informed Ludington High School administration and launched an extensive investigation. The police identified the student allegedly responsible for the threat and coordinated with the Lake Michigan Carferry Service to deploy its explosive-detection canine unit for a thorough search of the school premises.
“Following the investigation and canine search, it has been determined that there is no immediate threat to the safety of students or the school community. The investigation is ongoing, with continued efforts from both the police and school district to uphold safety and security. Both the Ludington Area School District and the Ludington Police Department emphasize that all threats are taken seriously. Individuals making such threats may face serious consequences, including potential criminal charges. The Ludington Police Department and Ludington Area School District extend their gratitude to the Lake Michigan Carferry Service for its assistance in ensuring the safety of our students and community.”
