Ruth “Ruthie” Virginia (Towns) Peterson, 96, of Ludington, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Ruth was born on September 19, 1927, the daughter of the late George L. and Gladys E. (Lasley) Towns. She graduated from Ludington High School. On August 16, 1947, she married her forever love, Carl James Peterson, at First United Methodist Church in Ludington. Together they shared nearly 60 memorable years by each other’s side until his passing in 2007.
Ruth was part of various organizations. She was a Girl Scout leader, long time auxiliary member of the VFW, and a member of her church since 1941. With her husband, she also owned Ludington Radio Shop. On her free time, she enjoyed golfing, walking, gardening, and visiting with sick friends. She also loved Bingo and going to the Casino. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; very loving and always giving. One thing everyone knew about her was how well she dressed! She always made sure to look her best with her hair done, and always had on her best bling.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Karla (Dennis) Briggs, and Cheri (Dennis) Thoreson; grandchildren, Tanya Cashler of Muskegon, Tracy Booth of Norwalk, Ohio, Trisha Kemper of Norwalk, Ohio, Chad Thoreson of Zeeland, and Jason Thoreson of Ludington; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, three very dear nephews, Chuck (Vicki) Houk, Bob (Deb) Towns, and George (Gail) Towns; dear friends Toni, Dwan, and Goldi Macintosh, and Rodney Beyer, who was like an adopted son to her; and many wonderful friends, too numerous to mention.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Peterson; parents, George and Gladys Towns; sister, Mary Jane (Harold) Shipley; brothers, George (Judy) Towns, and Charles (Doris) Towns; parents in-law, Frank and Ganda Peterson; brothers-in-law, Ben (Helene) Peterson, Ralph Peterson, Franklin (Mary Jane) Peterson, and Dave (Bunny) Peterson; sisters-in-law, Esther (Emerson) Houk, and Ruth (Paul) Dunham.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the employees at Oak View Medical Care Facility and Sutter Living Center for their kindness over the years, especially during mom’s illness. Everyone had gone above and beyond to make her comfortable. They were all so very kind, and we know as a family how hard it was for mom to have left them in her passing. The family would also like to recognize the women from Harbor Hospice for their care and support during mom’s illness.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11am at United Methodist Church of Ludington. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to The Alzheimer’s Association. Ruth’s beloved husband lived with it for over 11.5 years until his passing.
Arrangements were entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, www.OakGroveLudington.com.
