LUDINGTON — As a photographer and carferry history buff, I am always in pursuit of a unique image of the S.S. Badger. Seeing it depart Ludington at sunset only happens this time of year (it actually now leaves about 12 minutes after sunset), at 8:45 p.m.. Sunset tonight is at 8:33 p.m.
This summer the ship has only been running overnight sailings on the weekends, which means that those chances of getting a sunset picture are even less. Sept. 1 will be the last overnight cruise of the Badger for the 2024 season and by next weekend the sunset will have taken place about 20 minutes before sailing. This means tonight, Saturday, and tomorrow, Sunday, will likely be the last opportunity to get that sunset sailing photo.
