Lillian Bourgette

Lillian “Lil” Mary Bourgette, 80, of Scottville, passed away Wednesday July 31, 2024. Lillian was born in Cicero, Ill., on September 7, 1943, the daughter of Robert and Lillian (Petrich) Dickow. She graduated from Manistee High School in 1961.

On September 30, 1961, Lillian married the love of her life, Walter Bourgette, and even made her own wedding dress. Her first job was as a seamstress at The Glenn of Michigan. After raising two children she worked in housekeeping at the original Holiday Inn in Amber Township then moved to working at Anna Bach Candies, then the Little Red Shoe House, finishing her hourly career working at FloraCraft.

After retirement she found joy traveling the country with the love of her life. The two of them were notorious to hop in the car and go for a drive. Sometimes as far as California, Texas, Florida, with most of their trips including a stop in Branson, Mo.

When not traveling you could find her at her sewing table, making hand stitched kitchen towels and complete towel sets. Lillian and Walter would travel Michigan and set up at any local arts and crafts fair that would have them.  She took a lot of pride in making quality items that folks today would still be looking for. Lillian was a good cook, a great baker, wonderful seamstress, honest, kind, thoughtful and always willing to help someone.

One of Lillian’s biggest joys was her grandchildren. Her family always came first and having family visit was always something she loved.

Lillian is survived by her son, David (Dawn) Bourgette; daughter, Carol (Don) Johnston; grandson, Eric (Erika Dawkins) Raap; granddaughter, Melanie Grey Johnston; and sister, Dorothy Dickow Galletti.

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Bourgette; son-in-law, Roger Raap; brother, Robert Dickow; mother, Lillian Petrick Dickow; and father, Robert Dickow.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Oakview Care Facility for their wonderful caring staff that made Lillian’s time there the best it could have been. She was always treated with respect and love from all that cared for her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, www.oakgroveludington.com.
