HAMLIN TWP. — The third annual One (More) Good Day of Golf fundraiser will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11 at Hemlock Golf Club. The event is a fundraiser for the Sally K. Johnson Fund, which was started after Sally Johnson of Scottville was diagnosed with cancer.
“Anything that gives someone one good day is worth it,” Joe Johnson recalled his mother stating. The fund was started to help with beneficial things not covered by insurance, such as acupuncture and massage therapy. Sally realized not everyone was as fortunate and the fund leaves her legacy to help others in Mason, Lake, Manistee, Oceana and Benzie counties.
The third annual golf tournament is being organized by Lakeshore Community Cancer Fund and Mary Johnson (Joe’s stepmother). The cost is $75 per golfer. Other ways to contribute include purchasing golf course signs for $25 in memory of loved ones.
This is the only fundraiser done for this fund, but other fundraisers contribute money to it and there are some private donations in memory of someone. Twenty-three teams participated last year, 26 are expected this year. Just over $7,000 was raised in 2012. This year, there have been 20 requests for financial assistance and over $4,500 has been given out
