Herbert Jason Golnick, Jr, affectionately known as Jason, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, in Ludington, at the age of 61. Born on February 7, 1963, in Ludington, Jason spent his life in the community he loved.

Jason was a skilled handyman and a passionate cook. He dedicated many years to his craft, working at Sun Rise Café and assisting many with home repairs. His hobbies included cooking, building, and spending cherished times with his best friends Roger Comstock and Sue Avra. Jason also found great joy in fishing on the lake with friends, embracing the tranquility and excitement of the outdoors.

He is survived by a loving family: his sisters Marie Ivory of Texas and twin sister Christine Vanier of Michigan; his children Herbert Golnick III, Kendra Beard of Indiana, Julie Golnick, James Schmitz, Melissa Schmitz, and Calvin Golnick, all of Michigan. His life was enriched by his grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles who will miss him dearly.

Jason was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Golnick Sr. and Carol Golnick; his grandparents; his true love, Katherine Golnick; his beloved daughter, Cindy Dodson; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins and life partner Mary Beth Hopkins.

Jason graduated from Mason County Eastern High School, where he began shaping his future. His personality was marked by his love for cooking and home repairs, always eager to lend a hand or share a meal.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington, is assisting the family during this time. Jason’s life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, as a man who built his life with the same care and dedication that he used to craft meals and mend homes.
