Carolyn Ann Karboske
Carolyn Ann Karboske entered into eternal glory surrounded by her seven children, praying the Holy Rosary, her most beloved prayer. She was born on May 2, 1936, in Mason County, to Albert and Clara (Johnson) Kronlein. She graduated from Ludington High School in 1954, and subsequently, she obtained her R.N. diploma from Blodgett Hospital in 1957 and dedicated several years to a career in nursing, working at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mt. Park Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, Ann Arbor Veteran’s Hospital, and Paulina Stearns in Ludington.
On April 23, 1960, she married Raymond Joseph Karboske, and together they devoted their lives to raising their seven children. She was a beautiful, spirited, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to all her children, 21 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren – her greatest gifts. Throughout her life, her “Florence Nightingale” spirit comforted and offered healing to many people, family, and friends.
She found joy in sharing family stories about lineage, cooking and baking, and “grandma time” caring for all her children. Her home was a welcoming place, always open for a cup of coffee, dinner, and a chat. She was an active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Prayer Cenacle Apostolate, a member of St. Simon Catholic Church in Ludington, and a dedicated participant in Eucharistic Adoration. Her vocation was motherhood nurturing her family and imparting the values of her Catholic faith, which will remain a cherished part of her legacy. She made it her mission to ensure that everyone she met felt loved and treasured.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Anne and James Wunsch of Ludington, Letha and Daniel Fulton of Ludington, Mary Beth and Jason Brown of Iron Mountain, Christy and Rick Huempfner of Grand Rapids, Raymond and Jessica Karboske ofnLudington, Lynette and Derek Prentice of Fenton and Joel Karboske of Detroit. She also will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Lydia (Wunsch) and Dave VanWormer, Lara (Fulton) and Zach Webster, Jared and Mackenzie Fulton, Ethan and Amanda Fulton, Mariah (Fulton) and Austin Sniegowski, Ricky, Natalia and Avea Brown, Taleah (Huempfner) and Brian VanderBaan, Christian, Ezrah and Isaiah Huempfner; Katie, Raymond Joseph II, Lucia and Frankie Karboske; Remington and Tess Prentice, Monroe, Dominic and Xavier Prentice, and Marian(Prentice) and Dawson Carney; great-grandchildren- Otto VanWormer, Jayden, Ava and Beckhem Webster, Finnley and Fallon Fulton, Aalya Rodriguez, Violet VanderBaan and baby Carney due in September. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Kronlein; brother-in-law, Wally Karboske; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Clara Kronlein; her husband Raymond J. Karboske; and her brother Carl Kronlein.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington; the Holy Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Simon Catholic Church. Visitation will also be held at 10 a.m. before the Holy Mass. Carolyn will be laid to rest at Pere Marquette Catholic Cemetery in Pere Marquette Township. In her honor, memorial contributions may be directed to the family of Carolyn Karboske or Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat House.
