Dear Editor,

This past weekend Gus Maker brought in thousands of dollars to the City of Ludington and that’s great. However, there is a problem with the parking situation in the boat launch parking lot. We are local people not there to attend the tournament we were only there to take our young grandchildren to play mini golf at the Ludington Area Jaycees’ Mini Golf Course, which is their favorite course. The mini golf parking lot was blocked off due to the Gus Macker tournament, which we understand.  So, we found a spot in the boat launch parking area, not taking a spot away from the boaters with trailers.

We parked on the out rim of the lot where it was already full of vehicles, thought we got lucky to find a spot.    Keep in mind there were no — absolutely none —   “no parking” signs! So, we parked and walked over to play mini golf with the grandkids.

Upon returning we had a parking ticket along with everyone parked there.  And what really is the stickler the beach patrol girl writing the tickets was standing there when we parked and didn’t say a word to us about that being a no parking zone. We took several pictures of the area and guess what? No signs!

Now if they didn’t want people to park there why did they not put out no parking signs like were found on all the side streets?  The city made thousands of dollars off the people by not posting signs.   Even the vehicles with boat trailers who paid to launch their boats but were unable to park in the boat trailer parking because people where double and triple parked in these spots had tickets on their vehicles too.  How fair was this to them? How is double and triple parking in the boat rows legal parking?

This was a total disrespect to the visitors from the town of Ludington.

Sincerely,

Jim and Kathy Porter

Mears
