Kathleen Biteman

Kathleen Louise (Darr) Biteman, 72, formerly of Scottville, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Kate was born June 7, 1951, in Dowagiac and graduated from Mason County Central High School in 1969.  She attended Central Michigan University where she studied music and biology.  Later she studied nursing at West Shore Community College and worked as a home health care nurse helping many in Mason, Lake, and Manistee counties.

Kate had a love for animals and the outdoors and was known to spoil her pets, nearby strays, and any other wild animals that lived nearby.  She was known lovingly by her grandchildren as “Grandma Cakes” for always having something freshly baked to share with them before dinner.  Kate will always be remembered for her kind spirit, willingness to help those in need, her sense of humor and one of a kind laugh.

Preceding her in death were her parents Mona G. (Mack) and Richard E. Farrell of Scottville and her infant son Derek.

Surviving Kate are her children Adam (Susanne) Biteman of Interlochen and Senator Bo (Mercedes) Biteman of Parkman, Wyoming; grandchildren, Steven, Alyssa, Holly, and Henry Biteman; siblings Rick (Sunny) Darr of Florida, Suzanne (Robert) Bacon of Custer, Ginny (Tom) Foley of Central Lake, and Cindy (Ken) Papes of Free Soil; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be announced at a future date and held when friends and family can assemble. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider a local food bank or animal shelter.
