Man threatens hotel guests with handgun

April 24, 2024

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 40-year-old Pinconning, Michigan man was arrested Tuesday evening at a local hotel after allegedly threatening hotel guests with a handgun.

“On April 23, 2024 at 6:23 p.m., law enforcement personnel were called to the Comfort Inn on US 10 regarding a reported man with a gun who had reportedly threatened two guests at the hotel,” said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole in a press release issued Wednesday.

“Mason County Sheriff’s deputies and Michigan State Police troopers responded to the call. After interviewing the two victims and viewing hotel security video, it was determined there was a subject in the hotel with a handgun. Law enforcement established a location within the hotel where the suspect was, and that area of the hotel was evacuated.

“Once the area was secured from innocent bystanders, a line of communication was established with the suspect, and he turned himself over to deputies shortly after 9 p.m. He was taken into custody without incident.

“A 40 year-old Pinconning, Michigan man was taken into custody and is lodged in the Mason County Jail on charges related to felony assault and brandishing a firearm.

“MSP troopers, Ludington Police Department, Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Life EMS and Pere Marquette Township Fire assisted deputies at the scene as did the staff and ownership of the hotel.”

The case remains under investigation by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
