Employment: MCP Sports Editor

Mason County Press is seeking a part-time Sports Editor.

We seek an energetic sports enthusiast who enjoys telling the stories of local athletic events, especially, but not limited to, youth sports. This person should also be a self starter who requires little oversight.

The MCP Sports Editor will be responsible for developing positive working relationships with local school athletic directors and coaches, covering and writing about featured games each week, athlete feature stories, posting scores and highlights of various sporting events during game days/nights.

The successful candidate will help start the MCP sports department from the ground up.

Hours are flexible. This is a remote position with a maximum of 20 hours per week, with the potential of the position becoming full time.

The MCP Sports Editor will meet MCP standards as being the local news outlet that reports stories when they are still relevant.

The ideal candidate should possess the following traits and skills:

  • Knowledge in local sports, present and past.
  • Ability to write in a journalistic manner following AP Style.
  • Good people skills.
  • An ability to report on local sports objectively and equally.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Photography skills.
  • Access to a computer and the internet.

Access to and knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere are a plus.
