Obituary: John Thibert, 77, of Ludington
John Michael Thibert, 77, of Ludington, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 27, 1946, in Ludington, the son of Joseph and Anna (Paulsen) Thibert.
John was a veteran of Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Army from 1966-1969. He worked as an engineer for the Michigan Department of Transportation for 32 years until his retirement in 1997. In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing cards, especially poker and cribbage, and an occasional trip to the casino. He was proud of his Native American ancestry and loving being a drummer for the tribe as well as telling Indian legends and lore.
On October 30, 1986, in Muskegon, John married Loa Edith Hartley, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, DJ Verschueren; several nieces and nephews; and his four-legged companion, Kindiwah.
John was preceded in death by: his parents; his son, Mark John Thibert; his daughter, Brandi Sue Thibert; his sister, Catherine Durham; and his brother, Joseph Thibert; and his mother-in-law, Edith Harrison.
Cremation has taken place and in accordance with John’s wishes, a Celebration of Life picnic will be held this summer.
