Obituary: Joyce Eva (Collins) Hannes, 81, of Ludington
Joyce Eva (Collins) Hannes, 81, passed away unexpectedly March 3, 2024, at Corewell Health Ludington Hospital.
Joyce was born February 28, 1943, to Russell and Marian (Harwood) Collins on their family farm. She married Donald Hannes on April 23, 1966, in Ludington. Joyce joined Donald as he moved to various duty stations while in the Coast Guard, giving birth to her son Timothy in Valparaiso, Indiana and her daughter, Jill, in Ashland, Wisconsin. After Don’s retirement the family settled back in Ludington. Joyce was a loving mother who spent her time caring for her family. She taught her daughter, Jill, how to crochet, and always had dinner with her son, Tim on Sunday, sending him home with leftovers. Her cat Charlie was her constant companion.
Joyce is survived by her son, Timothy Hannes of Ludington; her daughter and son-in-law, Jill and James Schaefer of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; sister, Joan Vandervest; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Julie Collins; and sister-in-law Eleanor (Collins) Sandborn, all of Ludington; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great- nephews.
Joyce waspreceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Russell and Marian Collins; brother, Russell “Red” Collins; sister, Helen Bosley; and brother-in-law, Dennis Vandervest.
A service will be held at Oak Grove Funeral Home on Thursday, March 7 at 11 a.m. The family will receive visitors one hour prior, beginning at 10 a.m. There will be a luncheon at the funeral home immediately following the service for those attending.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Joyce, may be directed to Mason County Animal Control.
