Obituary: Lila Talsma, 89, of Scottville
Lila Dawn (Schultz) Talsma, 89, of Scottville, formerly of Custer, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
Lila was born on October 9, 1934, in Tallman, the daughter of the late Albert William and Pauline Hilma (Boeder) Schultz. Her family moved to Muskegon where her father was employed at a factory, producing aircraft engine parts during World War II. The family eventually moved back to Custer, where Lila graduated from Custer High School in 1952. After graduation Lila worked at Ludington Bank & Trust.
On June 22, 1957, she married the late Merlyn Theodore Talsma, and bought a family farm in Amber Township where they raised their four boys: Martin, Robert, Daron and Scott. After several decades on the farm, they eventually moved into the city of Scottville. After Merlyn passed away, Lila went back to school at West Shore Community College and started work for the City of Scottville until she retired. Lila was a dedicated member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Scottville where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, board member of the Ladies Guild and was organist for over 50 years.
Lila is survived by her sons; Martin (Linda) Talsma, Robert (Sherry) Talsma, Daron (Ronda) Talsma, and Scott (Roberta Kraus) Talsma; grandchildren, Phillip, Shelby, Aspen Andrew, Brooke, Nick and Dakota; and great-grandchildren, Banks J., Leticia, Natalia, Sebastian, Caspian, Wyatt, and Aurora.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Pauline Schultz; husband, Merlyn Talsma; brothers, Gordon and Albert Jr. Schultz; and sister, Beverly (Schultz) Osborne
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
