Hamlin Grocery North, an organic Michigan experience

HAMLIN TWP. — For quite some time Hamlin Grocery has been the place to be in the Hamlin area to get a fresh deli sandwich or salad or pretty much any basic staple. The little store at the corner of Jebavy Drive and Dewey Road has become a big store under the ownership of Vaughn Flewelling. Three years ago, the store and its offerings expanded even more with the addition of Hamlin Grocery North.

Located just a few feet away from the main store, Hamlin Grocery North is open during the summer months. It offers fresh organic produce, wine tasting, frozen yogurt and a line of Michigan-made products, among many other items.

“We’ve heard really good feedback from our customers, who say they can’t wait to come back every year,” says manager Sheila Genter. “One of our biggest hits is the organic produce grown by Pete Wilson of Free Soil. It’s hard to even keep the produce on the shelf because it sells out so quickly.”

Wine tasting always features a Michigan wine along with a selection of others. Shelia says they also offer a variety of craft beers brewed and bottled in Michigan.

A popular service of Hamlin Grocery North is its speciality gift baskets, which are available all year. The customizable baskets offer a variety of items sold in both stores. “We sell the baskets all over the country,” Sheila says. “We just made one up for a customer who lives in Virginia.”

The store will remain open until fall. If you don’t live near Hamlin, it’s worth the drive. While there, don’t forget about the famous Hamlin Grocery deli.
