Obituary: Phyliss Goerbig, 94, of Cadillac, formerly of Scottville

In Loving Memory of Phyllis (Vryhof) Goerbig

Phyllis (Vryhof) Goerbig, a remarkable soul who graced this world for 94 years, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023. She was born on March 26, 1929 in Muskegon. She was the daughter of the late Henrette Kuiper Vryhof and Frank Vryhof, who emigrated from The Netherlands. Phyllis, a beacon of strength and resilience, navigated through the tapestry of American history, priding herself on self-sufficiency. For an incredible 94 years, she called her home, a haven filled with love and warmth. In her final months, she found solace living with her son Michael and his wife Rowena.

In August of 1945, destiny brought Phyllis together with Julius Goerbig, a dashing World War II soldier she affectionately described as “the handsomest man!” Their union blossomed into 66 years of inseparable companionship. “Julie” and “Phil” shared a love that was as enduring as it was inspiring. They cultivated countless memories together, tending to their vegetable garden, hosting family gatherings at their home along the river, and escaping winters in Florida. They were members of the Victory Trinity Lutheran Church in Victory Township.

Family was the heartbeat of Phyllis’s life, and her fondest moments were spent with her sons, grandchildren, and their families. She will be remembered for her contagious laugher, passion for reading, bold determination, and the unconditional love and care for her family.

Phyllis is survived by her loving sons, Edwin (Christy) and Michael (Rowena) Goerbig, along with 10 adoring grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She joins in eternal rest with her parents, beloved husband Julius, and sons Joel, Wayne (Penny), as well as her brother Bill and sister Lois.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life service will be held in 2024. Further details will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Phyllis may be directed to Victory Trinity Lutheran Church.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington.
