Man sentenced for third-offense domestic violence

LUDINGTON — A 68-year-old man was sentenced to two years probation for a felony conviction of third-offense domestic violence in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, Dec. 12.

James Clark Williams pleaded guilty Oct. 24 to one count of third-offense domestic violence. A second count was dismissed.

Mason County Prosecutor Lauren Kreinbrink said this is Williams’ fifth conviction of domestic violence and that he also has a prior criminal sexual conduct (CSC) conviction that he served a prison term for. The victim in the case is an 18-year-old female family member, said the prosecutor. He threw a sandal in her direction and shoved her against a wall. 

Defense attorney Horia Neagos said his client has completed all court recommendations, including a domestic violence intervention program.

“I take full responsibility for my actions and I am also deeply remorseful for what I did,” said Williams. “I should have taken a step back.” 

Judge Susan K. Sniegowksi said Williams had no criminal activity after 1999 until his recent arrest.

The victim in the case requested that the no contact order be lifted.

He was also ordered to two days in jail with credit for two days served.
