Obituary: Duane James Gordon, 87, of Caribou, Maine, formerly of Scottville
Duane James Gordon, 87, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 7, 2023 in Caribou, Maine following declining health. He was born in Detroit on December 1, 1936, the son of the late Myron and Eleanor (Potter) Gordon. He was a graduate of Scottville High School (now Mason County Central) as well as the Preston Road School of Preaching in Dallas, Texas. He married Carol Portinga, June 14, 1958.
Before his retirement Duane served as a pastor of the Church of Christ in Caribou, Maine for many years. While serving as the minister of the Caribou Church he touched the lives of many local and U.S. Air Force people and is fondly remembered for his teachings, advice, as well as being a role model to many.
Surviving in addition to his wife of over 65 years, Carol of Caribou, Maine, are his children: Connie Payne of Walhalla, Scott Gordon and wife Laura of Scottville, Loren Gordon and wife Brianna of Caribou, Maine and Brian Gordon and wife Vicki of Hinsdale, New Hampshire; one brother Gary Gordon of Ludington; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Delores and James Nelson of LaPine, Oregon and Sally and Ralph “Butch” Razminas of Walhalla. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who were much loved in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his deep love for God and for God’s word, the Bible. All who knew him appreciated his kind nature and his sense of humor. Per Duane’s request, there will be no services at this time.
