Fire chief: Fire started near pot plants
SCOTTVILLE — Firefighters from three fire departments were dispatched at 11:08 a.m. to 109 W. Broadway Avenue Tuesday for a report of a fire. Dispatch information stated the home occupant reported the house’s basement was filling with smoke. Scottville Fire Chief Dale Larr confirmed that the fire started in the basement among marijuana plants that were being grown there. Larr said he couldn’t confirm if the cause was electrical. He said fire damage was minimal, even the pot plants survived.
Scottville Fire Department was assisted by Custer Fire Department and Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, along with Scottville Police Department, Scottville Department of Public Works, and Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters cleared the scene about 12:30 p.m.
