Firefighters extinguish house fire quickly

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — Firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire Sunday morning at 6531 W. Dewey Road. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at 9:50 a.m. and had the fire under control within 30 minutes. Hamlin Township Fire Department, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department and Ludington Fire Department responded along with Life EMS and Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Hamlin Fire Chief Steve Vandervest, the house is a cottage. The owners, from Illinois, were at the cottage winterizing it. Dispatch information stated the owner reported the fire had started in the kitchen. EMS had been dispatched to treat one of the homeowners with smoke inhalation.
The home is listed as owned by Jessica Pantoja of Niles, Ill.
