Obituary: Wayne Gort, 73, of Ludington
With sadness, we announce the passing of Wayne Eugene Gort, 73, of Ludington. Wayne entered the presence of God and Jesus his Savior, on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at home in the presence of loved ones, after having battled cancer for 6 1/2 years. Wayne was born on March 14, 1950 in Grandville, the son of the late Raymond and Magdalene Gort. He attended Calvin Christian High School, graduating with the class of 1968. He served his country for four years during the Vietnam Conflict with the United States Navy, during which time he met the love of his life, Lucy Meinema. They married on June 23, 1973 and have celebrated 50 years by each others side.
Wayne worked as a LMSW therapist for 30 years at Wedgwood Christian Services in Grand Rapids and Eagle Village near Hersey, and faithfully served in his church as well.
Along with his wife Lucy, Wayne will be greatly missed by his children, Keren, Alex (Lynnette), and Ben (Arie); his siblings Ken (Lisa), Jan, Lynn, and Dale (Pat); and his grandchildren Mara, Zion, Micah, Gabriel, and Anya. He will also be missed by his “adopted” grandchildren August, Esme, Clement, and Thea. We rejoice knowing that he is now healed and pain-free.
Funeral services will be held for Wayne at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7 at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Ludington with his Pastor Gary Ridley officiating. Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Mich.. Friends may meet with his family during a time of visitation on Friday evening, October 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wyman Funeral & Cremation Services in Scottville, and on Saturday, October 7 from 10 a.m. until time of services at Trinity Church.
