No charges to be filed in June 30 Bryant Road crash
LUDINGTON — There will be no charges filed against an 80-year-old Pere Marquette Township man who was involved in a fatal vehicle crash last summer. On June 30, 2023, Michael McConnell was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse SUV west on Bryant Road when he initiated a left turn and struck Michael Ivinson, 35, of Pere Marquette Township, who was driving east on Bryant Road on a motorized scooter. Ivinson was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It does not appear that the death in this case resulted from any identifiable criminal activity or moving violations, or reckless intent,” said Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Lauren Kreinbrink. “No criminal or traffic charges will be forthcoming in this case.”
Ivinson and his wife, Mandi, had two children, ages 6 and 4. He was a 2006 graduate of Manistee High School and a U.S. Air Force veteran who had served on deployment tour in Afghanistan. He had been working as a journeyman electrician and engineer at House of Flavors manufacturing. McConnell was their neighbor.
The crash was investigated by the Ludington Police Department with assistance by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
Additional emergency units that assisted on the scene included Ludington Fire Department, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and Life EMS.
