Trooper Butterfield memorial service scheduled for Saturday
FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — Ten years ago, on Sept. 9, 2013, Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield was murdered on Custer Road north of Townline Road by a 19-year-old Irons male during a routine traffic stop. Butterfield, 42, lived in Grant Township and was assigned to the MSP Hart post. The annual memorial service honoring Butterfield will be held at the site of the murder where a memorial now stands on Saturday, Sept. 9. The short ceremony begins at 6 p.m. and is open to the public.
Custer Road between Townline and Freeman roads will be closed during the short ceremony.
