By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief.
SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville Clown Band performs on its home stage, the Scottville Clown Band Shell, Tuesday, June 27, 2023 for its annual Patriotic Concert. Most of the Americana themed songs are performed exclusively during this show, which begins at 7 p.m. Additionally, Scottville Mayor Marcy Spencer will present the Clown Band with a proclamation from the City of Scottville honoring the band for its 120 years.
In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be cancelled. The current forecast is not calling for rain.
The band will also be asking the audience to contribute to its George F. Wilson Memorial Endowment Fund, which has been established through the Community Foundation for Mason County to provide scholarships for children attending summer performing arts camps. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket. The band shell is located adjacent to the former Scottville Optimist Club.
On Independence Day the band will march in the Manistee National Forest Festival parade in Manistee at 10 a.m. and then will end the Ludington Area Jaycees Freedom Festival parade, which begins at 2 p.m.
Following the Ludington parade, the band will perform a short show at the Ludington Beach House Inn at the intersection of Ludington Avenue and Lakeshore Drive and then will play at the American Legion on North James Street.
The Scottville Clown Band’s roots date back to 1903 when it began as the Merchants’ Band, performing at Scottville events.
