Man with long criminal record sent to prison for unarmed robbery
LUDINGTON — A 53-year-old man with a long criminal history was sentenced to 40 months to 30 years in prison Tuesday, June 20, in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court for a conviction of unarmed robbery.
Jeffrey Clay Young pleaded guilty to the charge, April 25.
Judge Susan K. Sniegowski also ordered that Young pay $1,123.24 in fines, costs and restitution. One count of methamphetamine possession was dismissed. The judge gave him credit for 465 days served in jail.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Young has served previous prison terms for third-offense operating while intoxicated (OWI) in 2009; unlawful use of a motor vehicle in 2007; and third-offense OWI in 2004. His probation terms under MDOC supervision include: methamphetamine possession in 2021; uttering and publishing in 2019; and third-offense OWI 2000-2002. MDOC lists his status as “probation absconder.”
Young’s criminal history also includes the following:
– He was found guilty in 2021 of methamphetamine possession and sentenced to 321 days in jail with credit for 321 days served; two years probation; $1,403.89 in restitution; and $598 in fines and costs.
– He was arrested in 2020 for second degree retail fraud/shoplifting. The charge was dismissed in a plea agreement.
– He pleaded guilty in 2019 to uttering and publishing and was sentenced to 365 days in jail with credit for 91 days served; 24 months of probation; nine months of jail to be served up front with the remainder to be served at the court’s discretion; $220.70 in restitution; and $658 in fines/costs. As part of a plea agreement, two additional charges of uttering and publishing along with fourth-offense habitual offender were dismissed.
– He was found guilty in 2018 of driving while license suspended (DWLS) and was sentenced to 38 days in jail with credit for 38 days served; one year discretionary jail for one year; no alcohol/drugs; and $600 in fines and costs. Charges of operating without insurance, failure to report an accident and improper license plates were dismissed.
– He was found guilty in 2013 of operating without insurance and operating without a license on person and sentenced to five days in jail with credit for five days served; $855 in fines and costs; one year discretionary jail for two years for the first count; and 90 days discretionary jail for the second count. Charges of second-offense DWLS and improper registration were dismissed.
– He was found guilty in 2013 of larceny $200 or more and sentenced to five days in jail with credit for five days served; one year discretionary jail for two years; must return all car parts to victims; and $740 in fines and costs.
