Victory READ program provides free books to students

Spartan News is a presentation of Mason County Central Schools in partnership with Mason County Press.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — Once a month the students at Mason County Central’s Victory Early Childhood Center through the school’s READ (Read, Explore, and Discover) program. Traditionally, a community member would visit the classroom and read a book. Lately, On-Site Director Sally Smith, has been reading as the center returns to pre-COVID operations. Following the book reading, the students then get to pick out a book to keep.

Funding for the program is provided through the MCC Educational Foundation, parent fundraising and also the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), which is overseen by the West Shore Educational Service District. The program was formed as a result of input from the center’s parent advisory committee and is based on the Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program created at MCC’s former Riverton Elementary School.
