U.S. 10 will have increased law enforcement presence this weekend

LUDINGTON — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police have announced they will be increasing patrols on U.S. 10 over the Memorial Day weekend. Marked patrol cars will particularly be concentrating on the busy intersections between Scottville and Ludington.

Those intersections include Stiles Road, Brye Road, Meyers Road and Pere Marquette Highway. The Brye Road intersection and the Pere Marquette intersection are listed as two of the most dangerous intersections in Michigan. Sheriff Kim Cole has said that the majority of crashes that occur at those intersections are due to drivers attempting to make left turns into on-coming traffic.

Cole has also said the purpose of increased patrols is not to ticket drivers but rather to educate them on safe driving.

“The goal of the extra patrols is to reduce the crash rates on U.S. 10, which has been one of the most dangerous roads in the State of Michigan over the past several years,” Cole said. “We encourage motorists to use extra caution this weekend, slow down, use your seatbelts and obey all traffic signals to ensure we all have a safe, peaceful holiday.
