SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central students and teachers were recently gifted school supplies by Mason County Reformed Church. Proceeds raised during the church’s recent Christmas Shoppe paid for the supplies, according to Ashley Ruhlig of Mason County Reformed Church.
“We wanted to fill the gap that may otherwise come from teachers and administrators to take care of classroom and kids,” Ruhlig said.
Funds paid for snacks, cups, disinfectant wipes, tissues, water bottles and card stock.
“We wanted to deliver the items to the schools and had acquired the items with the guidance from school staff on what common things were needed for classrooms and the schools to get through the rest of the year.”
The items were donated to Scottville Elementary (lower elementary) and the upper elementary. Items included:
- 10 – 90 pack boxes of fruit snacks
- 8 – 450 packs of 5 ounce cups
- 300 water bottles
- 8 – 60 packs of pretzels
- 8 – 6 packs of tissues
- 14 – 36 packs of goldfish crackers
- 24 – 25 packs of Rice Krispy treats
- 10 – 5 packs of disinfectant wipes
- 20 reams of card stock
“Scottville Elementary would like to give a huge shout out and a heartfelt thank you to the members of Mason County Reformed Church for their kind donation to our school,” Scottville Elementary Principal Chris Etchison said. “They generously donated snacks, office supplies, tissues, and disinfectant wipes amongst other things to Mason County Central Schools, Scottville Elementary and the Upper Elementary, using the proceeds from their annual Christmas Shoppe held at the church this past November. These items are greatly needed and greatly appreciated. Our staff and our students are very grateful that they chose to bless Mason County Central Schools with this donation.”
An additional $300 in gift cards were donated to the middle school, allowing staff to purchase items as needed.
“We believe, as a church, that partnering with the local schools is one of the best ways to support our community,” Ruhlig said. Mason County Reformed Church also coordinates the Hand 2 Hand Program, which provides weekend meals for kids at MCC and Mason County Eastern Schools.
