Obituary: Gary Teelander, 84, of Custer

Gary Marks Teelander, 84, of Custer passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at his home following a courageous 20 year battle with cancer.  Gary was born on March 6, 1938 in Detroit, the son of Forrest E. and Evelyn L. (Marks) Teelander and graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1956.  Following high school, he served his country with the United States Army.  Upon his discharge from service, Gary began working for General Motors in Lansing at Plant 3 and Plant 5 where he was responsible for repairing just about everything.  He worked at GM for over 30 years, eventually moving to the Whiskey Creek area of Mason County where he was able to enjoy quiet country living.  In his retirement, Gary worked in advertising for awhile, traveled all over our great country, tinkered in his workshop taking things apart just to reassemble them better, and also enjoyed woodworking.  He truly lived life with a smile.

Gary will be greatly missed by his daughter Kimberlee Nixon of Custer; his granddaughter Nicole Heil of Roscommon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services with military honor rites will be held next spring at Sherman Township Cemetery in Tustin where Gary will be laid to rest next to his parents.  No other services are planned at this time.
