Water restored in downtown Scottville.

SCOTTVILLE — Water service has been restored in downtown Scottville. A water main break caused disruption in water service in the southern half of the 100 block of South Main Street Tuesday. City Manager Jimmy Manager said this was the same break that occurred in 2021. The Scottville Department of Public Works staff believes they now know that flushing the downtown fire hydrant seems to cause the water main break. Newkirk said the DPW is investigating how to prevent the issue in the future. Fire hydrants need to be flushed periodically in order to provide proper service in case of a fire.

Newkirk said only the residents who live above the downtown businesses will need to boil water for consumption.

“While we were able to isolate and flush the broken line state regulations require a boil notice until water testing can be done,” Newkirk said.

South Main Street will remain closed today while crews repair the roadway and sidewalk. All residential areas of Scottville are unaffected by the boil notice, Newkirk said, adding that he has contacted all residents and businesses that are impacted.
