SHELBY — The Shelby Public Schools Board of Education unanimously voted to offer its superintendent position to Shelby High School Mark Olmstead during a special meeting Thursday evening.

Prior to taking action, the board of education interviewed Olmstead and Dan Mesyar, who is currently Ludington High School principal. Olmstead and Mesyar were each called back for interviews following a first round interview session that took place on June 2. At that time, two other candidates were also interviewed, including Mason County Eastern Elementary/Secondary School Principal Mark Forner and Newaygo High School Principal Ben Reyburn.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to serve as Shelby Public Schools’ next superintendent,” Olmstead said. “We have a supportive community and a great, hard working school staff.  I look forward to leading our district through the completion of our current building project and educational initiatives.  It is indeed a great time to be a Tiger and I am glad to be playing this role in the continued growth of Shelby Public Schools.”

Olmstead will take over for Superintendent Tim Reeves, who resigned to accept the superintendent job at Wayland Public Schools. Reeves led the effort to find his replacement. His last day on the job will be June 30, and Olmstead will take over July 1, upon completion of contract negotiations.
