Linda Brooks

Obituary: Linda Brooks, 75, of Scottville.

Linda Gail Brooks, 75, of Scottville, passed away early Sunday morning, June 5, 2022 at her home.  Linda was born on December 21, 1946 in Holland, the daughter of Arthur and Neva (Carrier) Nichols and graduated from Inland Lakes High School in Indian River.  On April 16, 1965, she married William “Bill” Brooks at the Indian River Catholic Shrine and they have celebrated 57 years by each other’s side.

Linda loved children as evidenced by her fostering over 30 children through the years.  Along with raising their six children, Linda was also blessed with 14 grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.  Recently, she was also blessed with two great-grandchildren.  After her fostering years were concluded, she continued to help out in the community by operating Linda’s Baby Shop, a resale baby clothing and equipment store, out of her home in Scottville for several years.  She and Bill enjoyed traveling together on Caribbean Cruises, to Hawaii, and wintering in Florida.  They always looked forward to playing cards with friends and family, usually euchre, and in her quiet time – she always enjoyed reading.

Linda will be greatly missed by her husband Bill; their children William (Leticia) Brooks of Eulis, Texas, James (Kathy) Brooks of Clio, Lisa (Tony) Suchodolski of Flushing, Mary (Jon) Wroge of Norwood Young America, Minn., Mark (Sarah) Brooks of LaCenter, Ky., and Justin (Sheyla) Brooks of North Fort Myers, Fla.  Linda will also be missed by her beloved grandchildren Katie (Mason) Wagner, Bella (Austin) Brooks, Nathan Brooks, Caleb Burpe, Ryan Ferguson, Ashley Barron, Robert (Caitlin) Barron, Kylie Wroge, Cole Casteel, Hannah Wroge, Aubry Wroge, Mark Brooks Jr., Lexie (Jarret) Oldham, and Jayden Brooks; her two great-grandchildren Ava and Ophelia; and her brothers Mark (Judy) Nichols, Larry (Cynthia) Nichols, and Jenny Gokey.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents Arthur Nichols and Neva Gokey; her sister Vivian Olson; and her brother Edward Nichols.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place for Linda at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer with Rev. Daniel DePew as Celebrant.  Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Scottville.  Friends may greet her family on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.  Those who wish to remember Linda with a memorial donation are asked to please consider the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
