LUDINGTON — A 29-year-old Branch Township man pleaded guilty Tuesday, April 5, to third-offense domestic violence, three counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and fourth-offense habitual offender after assaulting his mother last December.

Nicholas Brian Lauterwasser, of 186 S. Walhalla Rd., was arrested after Mason County sheriff’s deputies were called to his home following the assault. He also smashed a table and punched holes in walls, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

According to Mason County Assistant Prosecutor Beth Hand, Lauterwasser’s mother was the victim of the assault.

He charged at the deputies, attempting to punch them with a closed fist, according to Sheriff Cole.

Lauterwasser was sentenced in 2018 in 51st Circuit Court to 27 months to 25 years in prison for domestic assault. He was on parole when he committed those offenses.

He has served prison time for previous convictions of interfering with electronic communications, two counts of third-offense domestic violence and three counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records.

Sentencing is set for May 24 at 1 p.m.
