Courthouse lifts mask mandates.

LUDINGTON — The Mason County Courthouse no longer will require people who are vaccinated from COVID-19 to wear a mask. The mask mandate was lifted effective this morning. Mason County Probate Judge Jeff Nellis, who serves as the county’s chief judge, said the courts were waiting for a change in policy from the Michigan Supreme Court and the State Court Administrative Office, along with input from District Health Department No. 10, which represents Mason County.

On Tuesday, June 22, Gov. Whitmer announced that the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services lifted the state’s mask mandate for anyone.

“Masks are not required for visitors unless they are not vaccinated or they want to wear one,” Judge Nellis said. “We will continue the covid screening/questions for now.  Employees will continue to self-screen.”

On Thursday, MCP posted an article addressing the topic of the courthouse still requiring visitor’s to wear masks.

Visitors to the courthouse must still enter on the terrace level of the east side of the building where they will be required to answer COVID-19 questions and have their temperature taken.
